About Lacy Cobweb
Lucille Brain
Playing music & singing for fun has been part of Lucille's identity for most of her life. Ten years ago she hankered to try some different instruments from the piano & violin & she now possesses a menagerie of unusual historical replicas such as bone flutes, bagpipes, harp & Hurdy Gurdy. However, the violin is her main instrument which she plays in Lacy Cobweb.
Lucille has a special interest in folk music, especially Trad & medieval music, and she regularly plays for French & Morris dance groups.
Helen Lacey
Helen feels well and truly blessed that she attended Nailsea Christ Church C of E, a very musical Junior School. Everyone was encouraged to play a musical instrument. Here she was acquainted with the SATB part of the recorder family, guitar and choirs. She was also introduced to Early, Classical, Folk, and Folk Pop music.
Encouraged by the school, her parents gave her the opportunity to learn another instrument and for her 8th birthday she started piano lessons. She absolutely loved them and NEVER had to be encouraged to practice, only to stop playing sometimes!
At Grammar in Stalybridge, Helen took up viola which she played through out her high school years which continued to Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, playing in the school orchestras and a string orchestra.
Music took a temporary back seat when she trained to become a nurse at Dudley Road Hospital, Birmingham. A year after qualifying as a nurse and newly married she picked up her piano lessons again and began to do a little teaching. This would blossom into full time peripatetic teaching and teaching from home of the piano, keyboards and flute ( which she began learning aged 40 and gained grade 8 at 44 ).
She has played and sung in various groups and ensembles including recorder consorts, flute choirs, choral choirs and a jazz band.
More recently she began playing folk music and doing a little dancing for a local Morris side. This is where she met other musicians including Sean and Lucille and from which Lacy Cobweb has bloomed!

Sean Cobb
Sean began his music playing journey in his early 20s playing synth for the Tamworth based New Age Music band Abstract Images. His favourite artists at the time were Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Clannad. The latter offered a shoo-in to traditional music when he took up guitar at 24 and developed a keen interest in the folk genre.
Sean has spent over 25 years regularly performing as a singer-songwriter, singing and playing in numerous genres. In 2022 he discovered the world of Morris Dancing which led him to mostly focus on Trad folk and which has ultimately led to the formation of Lacy Cobweb.
Sean plays a Turner 35CE jumbo electro-acoustic guitar, a Turner 72CE electro-acoustic guitar, a Noah Super Tenor ukulele, a Suzuki Pro-37v3 melodica.
